WHAT WE DO

ACUPUNCTURE

The Chinese have been using acupuncture for over 2000 years. Through all this time they have put together a complete system for understanding the working of the body and mind. They see the vital energy (Qi—pronounced chee) of the body running mainly in channels called meridians. They found that they could manipulate that energy (Qi) at certain points along those meridians using various tools, including needles and the heat from burning herbs such as moxibustion (mugwort). They found they could strengthen weak Qi and expel any excess Qi or toxins that have accumulated in the meridians. Acupuncture can also clear blockages of Qi or other vital substances in the body, as well as regulate the function of the internal organs by stimulating the points on the channels connected to them. In this way acupuncture can stimulate the body’s natural healing responses, increase resistance to disease, and restore the vitality of the body and mind.
Traditional Chinese acupuncture recognizes that many times aches, pains, and other discomforts are only symptoms of a deeper, underlying health problem. Therefore, a comprehensive diagnosis is compiled which takes into account the individual’s body, mind, and spirit, rather than simply categorizing them into a disease. The basis of acupuncture is to build the body’s own immune system so that disease will not penetrate the body. Prevention is the best medicine. Acupuncture has been found useful in treating the following chronic and acute conditions:

Pain—back and neck pain, headaches, migraines, sciatic pain, pinched nerves, sports injuries, frozen shoulder, slipped disc, arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, muscle strains, etc.
Stress—hypertension, depression, anxiety, insomnia, tiredness, weakness, weak immune function, irritability etc.
Women—PMS, painful and irregular periods, infertility, menopause, post-partum care, morning sickness, urinary problems, etc.
Men—prostate problems, impotence, urinary problems, etc.
Digestive—constipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, etc.
Internal—heart and circulation problems, stroke, diabetes, hypoglycemia, asthma, chronic bronchitis, auto-immune diseases, hearing loss, eye problems, hemorrhoids, skin diseases, etc.
Allergies—hay fever, sinusitis, etc.
Addictions—smoking, alcohol, food, etc. Acute conditions—common cold, cough, sinus infection, bronchitis, conjunctivitis, toothache, mastitis, etc.

CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

The use of herbs is the main form of treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine. For over thousands of years, Chinese doctors have perfected a comprehensive system for diagnosing health problems and treating them using a complex formula of herbs, selected from a possible 500 or more herbs, each of which has it’s own function, and also different functions when used in combination with other herbs. A typical herbal formula will usually contain up to 15 herbs. Herbs are given as pills, powders, or raw herbs to be cooked into a tea and drank. Prior to developing an herbal formula, a Chinese diagnosis is first obtained using the pulses, tongue, palpation and symptoms to determine the exact herbal combination for you.

Like acupuncture, these herbs balance the systems of the body and mind, regulating the functioning of the internal organs, clearing blockages in the flow of Qi and other vital substances. They also strengthen any deficiencies and expel any excessive factors. They treat the body and mind as a whole, going to the root of the problem as well as relieving the symptoms. They stimulate the body’s own healing process and bring about a deep re-balancing of the system so as to carry out a long term cure and increase the body’s resistance to further problems in the future.
Almost any condition can benefit from taking Chinese herbs and a very wide range of conditions can be treated with high effectiveness, including:

When properly given, and taken by the patient, Chinese Herbal Medicine is extremely safe. In addition to my extensive herbal studies and training, I have also been trained in herbal interactions and precautions with Western medicines. I use only high quality dried herbs imported directly from China and manufactured by companies that meet GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards. I use no herbal medicines that contain heavy metals, endangered species, or “other” unknown ingredients.
